Frequently Asked Questions — Everything You Need to Know About Engineering Admissions in India

What is Admission In Engineering?

Admission In Engineering is India’s leading free engineering admission counselling portal, headquartered in Patna, Bihar. We help students and families navigate the complex process of B.Tech and other professional degree admissions — from eligibility assessment to final seat confirmation — without charging any service fee or donation.

Yes, absolutely. Our counselling is 100% free of charge. We do not charge any service fee, registration fee, consultancy fee, or donation from students or parents at any stage. Our promise — “No Service Charge, No Donation” — is the foundation of everything we do. If anyone claiming to represent us asks for money, please report it to us immediately at info@admissioninengineering.com.

Any student who has completed or is appearing in Class 12 (10+2) and wishes to pursue B.Tech, M.Tech, BBA, MBA, BCA, MCA, B.Sc, B.Sc Nursing, MBBS, BDS, or Law (LLB/LLM) can use our service. We primarily serve students from Bihar, Jharkhand, UP, West Bengal, and Odisha, but welcome aspirants from across India.

Getting started is simple. You can reach us in three ways: call or WhatsApp us at +91 7903345418, email us at info@admissioninengineering.com, or fill the contact form on our website. Share your Class 12 marks, JEE/entrance exam score (if any), preferred branch, and budget — and our counsellor will contact you within 24 hours with personalised college recommendations.

While engineering (B.Tech/M.Tech) is our core focus, we also provide admission guidance for MBA, BBA, BCA, MCA, B.Com, B.Sc, B.Sc Nursing, MBBS/BDS, and Law programs across 166+ colleges and 140+ universities listed on our platform.

We currently list 180+ engineering colleges and 140+ universities across India, spanning Tier 1 institutions like NITs, BITS Pilani, and VIT Vellore; Tier 2 colleges with strong placements; and Tier 3 colleges with open admission for students with lower scores or percentages.

What is the minimum eligibility for B.Tech admission in India?

To be eligible for B.Tech admission, a student must have passed Class 12 (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as compulsory subjects from a recognised board (CBSE, ICSE, BSEB, or any State Board). The minimum percentage required varies by college — Tier 1 colleges typically require 75%+, while many Tier 2 and Tier 3 colleges accept students with 45–60% marks.

JEE Main is mandatory for admission to NITs, IIITs, and centrally funded technical institutions (CFTIs). However, many private engineering colleges across India do not require JEE Main scores and admit students based on Class 12 marks alone. Our counsellors can identify the best colleges matching your profile — with or without a JEE score.

A JEE Main percentile above 90 is generally considered strong for NIT admissions. However, percentiles between 50–90 open doors to many excellent Tier 2 private colleges. Even students below 50 percentile can secure admission in good Tier 2 and Tier 3 colleges. Contact us with your exact percentile and we’ll show you the best available options.

Colleges on our platform accept a range of entrance exams including JEE Main, JEE Advanced, BITSAT, VITEEE, SRMJEEE, CUET, and various State-level JEEs (BCECE for Bihar, UPSEE for UP, WBJEE for West Bengal, etc.). Many colleges also offer direct admission based on Class 12 marks without any entrance exam.

Yes, absolutely. BSEB (Bihar School Examination Board) marks are recognised by engineering colleges across India. Bihar students regularly secure admissions in colleges in Bangalore, Pune, Delhi NCR, Kolkata, Chennai, and other major cities. Our counsellors specialise in helping Bihar students get into out-of-state colleges.

As per AICTE guidelines, there is no upper age limit for B.Tech admission in most private engineering colleges in India. The minimum age requirement is generally 17 years as of December 31 of the admission year.

How do I choose the right engineering college in India?

Choosing the right college depends on several factors: your JEE Main/entrance score, Class 12 percentage, preferred branch (CSE, ECE, Mechanical, Civil, etc.), state preference, annual fee budget, and long-term career goals. Our counsellors at Admission In Engineering analyse all these factors together and recommend the 3–5 best-fit colleges for your specific profile — completely free.

Computer Science Engineering (CSE), particularly specialisations in AI & ML, Data Science, and Cybersecurity, currently offer the highest average placement packages in India. ECE (Electronics & Communication) and IT also have strong placement records. Mechanical and Civil Engineering offer stable careers in core industries and PSUs. The right branch depends on your interest and aptitude — we help you decide.

Tier 1 colleges include NITs, BITS Pilani, VIT Vellore, and Jadavpur University — highly competitive, requiring strong JEE scores, with excellent placements. Tier 2 colleges are reputed private institutions offering good education, infrastructure, and placements — ideal for students with moderate JEE scores or strong 12th marks. Tier 3 colleges offer open admissions based on 12th percentage with lower fees — suitable for students who missed competitive exams but still wish to pursue engineering.

Top choices for CSE include NITs (NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, NIT Surathkal), BITS Pilani, VIT Vellore, SRM University, Thapar University, Manipal University, and Sharda University. For students with lower scores, colleges like LNCT Bhopal, Galgotia University, and many Bangalore-based institutions offer strong CSE programs. We help you find the best fit for your score and budget.

This is one of the most common dilemmas in engineering admissions. In general, a sought-after branch (like CSE) at a Tier 2 college often offers better placement outcomes than a less popular branch (like Civil or Mining) at a Tier 1 college. However, the right answer depends on your individual career goals. Call us at +91 7903345418 and our counsellors will guide you through this decision personally.

es. Many reputed colleges in Bangalore (like BMS College, Acharya Institute, CMRIT) and Pune (like Bharti Vidyapeeth, DY Patil) offer B.Tech admissions based on Class 12 PCM marks without requiring JEE Main. Contact us with your percentage and we’ll shortlist the best options for you.

What is the step-by-step B.Tech admission process in India?

The general B.Tech admission process involves: (1) Appear in JEE Main or relevant entrance exam, (2) Check eligibility based on Class 12 marks and exam score, (3) Research and shortlist colleges based on rank/percentile, (4) Fill out and submit college application forms, (5) Attend counselling (centralised or college-level), (6) Pay admission fee and confirm your seat, (7) Submit original documents for verification. Our team guides you through every single step — free of charge.

Management quota is a category of seats that private engineering colleges fill directly, without relying on centralised counselling or entrance exam ranks. These seats are valid, government-approved, and result in a genuine degree. However, fees under management quota are typically higher than merit-based seats. We help students verify college authenticity and navigate management quota admissions safely and transparently.

B.Tech admissions typically begin between May and July each year, following the release of JEE Main results. Private college applications may open as early as February–March, while centralised counselling (JoSAA for NITs/IITs) happens in June–July. We recommend contacting us early — between March and May — to get the best guidance and avoid last-minute rushes.

Branch change within the same college is possible in the first or second semester at many institutions, subject to academic performance and seat availability. Transferring to a different college mid-course is more difficult and subject to university regulations. It’s better to choose the right college from the start — which is exactly what we help you do.

Missing JEE Main does not end your engineering dreams. Many top private colleges admit students based on Class 12 PCM marks. You can also appear in college-specific exams like VITEEE, SRMJEEE, or BITSAT. Additionally, some state boards conduct their own entrance tests with open registration. Contact us immediately — we’ll map out your best available options based on your current profile.

What is the average annual fee for B.Tech at private engineering colleges in India?

Annual B.Tech fees vary widely: Tier 1 private colleges (like VIT, SRM, Manipal) charge between ₹1.5 lakh to ₹3.5 lakh per year. Tier 2 colleges range from ₹80,000 to ₹1.8 lakh per year. Tier 3 colleges often charge ₹40,000 to ₹80,000 per year. Additionally, hostel and mess charges range from ₹60,000 to ₹1.5 lakh per year. We always counsel students with full fee transparency.

Yes. Scholarship options include: Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships (CSSS) for Class 12 merit students, State government scholarships (Bihar Scholarship, UP Scholarship), National Scholarship Portal (NSP) schemes, SC/ST/OBC central government scholarships, and college-specific merit scholarships based on JEE rank or 12th percentage. Our counsellors help you identify scholarships you are eligible for at the time of admission.

Standard documents required include: Class 10 Marksheet and Certificate, Class 12 Marksheet and Certificate, JEE Main/Entrance Exam Scorecard (if applicable), Transfer Certificate (TC) from previous school, Character Certificate, Caste Certificate (for SC/ST/OBC category), Passport-size photographs (6–10 copies), Aadhaar Card, and Income Certificate (for scholarship or fee concession). We provide a personalised document checklist for every student we counsel.

Yes. The EWS (Economically Weaker Section) reservation of 10% is applicable in government colleges and many private institutions. Students whose family annual income is below ₹8 lakh and who do not belong to SC/ST/OBC categories may be eligible for EWS benefits. Valid EWS certificate from the competent authority is required at the time of admission.

Yes. Most nationalised and private banks in India offer education loans for B.Tech programs at AICTE-approved private colleges. Loans up to ₹7.5 lakh are typically offered without collateral, and higher amounts require property or asset guarantees. We can guide your family through the education loan process as part of our free counselling.

Always verify college approval status on the official AICTE website (aicte-india.org) and your state’s technical education regulatory body. Look for NAAC accreditation, NIRF ranking, and NBA accreditation for specific programs. Our platform lists only verified, AICTE-approved institutions. If you’re unsure about any college, contact us and we’ll verify it for you before you pay any fees.
